Conversational Style, Detailed Insights

I love hearing writers come alive when they talk about their stories. One of my favorite questions to ask is, "What do you love about your main character?" For me, it is thrilling to help an author discover what is at the heart of their adventure, and help them puzzle out the places that have them stuck. As a verbal processor myself, I know how important it is to have someone you can talk to who understands and loves your story as much as you do. I also know what a game-changer a good editor is, especially when trying to hone one's craft.

Sometimes we just need someone to walk with us. I've been there. If that's you, I'd like to invite you to consider allowing me to accompany you on your journey.

My favorite kinds of stories are filled with fantasy, adventure, mystery, humor, and romance. If your story includes any of these elements, we might be a good fit! I do not read non-fiction, hard sci-fi, horror, grimdark, or erotica, and would not be a good fit for those genres.

Book
Coaching

Accompaniment through regular meetings where we will dig deep into your story, characters, or other areas where you desire help or a sounding board.

Basically, I'm your personal cheerleader, editor-in-your-pocket, and prayer warrior. Together, we'll puzzle out your stuck places, brainstorm for missing pieces, work out the kinks, strengthen what needs an extra boost, and bring out what makes your story shine. And on those days when you really need someone to tell you that the battle is worth it in the end, I'll help you remember what you're fighting for.

(Coaching may or may not include reading any of your actual text, and may be bundled with editing options if you choose.)

Story-
Storming

Stuck on something? Story-Storming is a one-shot brainstorming session during which we dive into specific areas where you want some extra help, and get the juices flowing!

Story-Storming can be used multiple times at your discretion. If you are unsure whether or not coaching or editing is for you, Story-Storming is a great way to get your feet wet and start to get the help you need without a larger commitment.

Developmental
Editing

The "big picture" step of editing that takes a broad look at structure, plot, character, pacing, and other elements of craft to ensure your story is as engaging and coherent as it can be. Includes in-document comments, my type-written notes about what is working well and what specific areas need more attention, as well as a 40-minute video call to discuss the feedback. Additional calls follow coaching or Story-Storming rates.

Additionally, as a Catholic with a background in theology, I can consider your story from the lenses of truth, beauty, and goodness. Whether we are writing something sweet and cozy or deep and hard-hitting, it is always important to ask ourselves what the story is saying, and whether or not what it's saying is true (as opposed to merely factual). Especially in fantasy, that can be tricky. But also a lot of fun! I can help you navigate those nuances.

Line
Editing

Up close and personal editing that looks at each paragraph and line, assessing for optimal clarity and impact while honing your voice and making each line sparkle. Includes in-document comments with tracked changes, and a 40-minute video call to discuss the feedback, if desired. Additional calls follow coaching or Story-Storming rates.

Line editing may be paired with developmental editing, but if there are developmental issues that need to be addressed, I recommend fixing those first before we worry about the detailed wording of each line and paragraph. If I am hired to do a line edit and determine there are significant developmental changes that need to happen, I will pause the line edit and recommend doing the developmental edit first.

(Should you choose to do the developmental edit first and then still want a line edit after, I will offer the bundle discount.)

Rates

Book Coaching

Standard:
$60 for an hour video call, monthly, bi-monthly, or weekly

Editing Discount:
$50 for an hour video call if I am currently editing or already completed an edit for you.

Returning Writer Discount:
Writers whose work I have edited in the past automatically qualify for the reduced rate, even if I am not editing their current project.

Story-Storming

Standard:
$40 for 40 min video call without reading your manuscript

Reading Rate:
$60 for 40 min + reading up to 7,000 words or two chapters (whichever is larger). Does not include edits.

"Frequent Flyer" Discount:
Writers who have used Story-Storming six times get a seventh session FREE!

Developmental & Line Edits

Standard:
$0.015 per word*

Book Coaching Discount:
Writers who choose to receive book coaching during or after an edit pay only $0.013 per word, in addition to receiving the Editing Discount on coaching.

Editing Bundle:
Pay the Standard or Coaching Discount rate for a developmental edit, and the line edit is only $0.011 per word!

*Note: I will request a sample of your work before agreeing to edit your manuscript. It helps me determine whether or not I will be able to take on a project at that time. You are also welcome to request a sample edit. For all services, pages must have standard formatting. I can clarify what that means when we decide to work together.
