Heart of the Lover

Every person has a story. 
Every story has players. 
Every player has a purpose. Including you.

Each of us is in the midst of the grand story of our lives, intermingled with the stories of the lives of those around us. No part of that story is arbitrary. We all matter. Our stories matter.

In the classical sense, we all determine if our own stories will be comedies or tragedies. We each choose how to respond to the Lover. Will our stories end in ultimate joy or ultimate sorrow? It's up to us. The primary Lover in each epic tale is relentless until the moment that the last word on the last page is written, and our sequel is decided. But how we respond to the Lover until--and in--that moment determines our fate.

Day to day, moment to moment, we choose. Some days seem to head us toward comedy, the next tragedy. To focus always on comedy is not true to our human frailty, but to remain in tragedy leads only to despair. This is the dynamic in which we live our lives; somewhere between our hope for the final happy ending, and the reality that our flawed natures make it difficult to get there. But get there we can, because of this one amazing, mind-boggling reality:

The Heart of the Lover lives within us. 

This is the Truth that I wrestle with each day, the reality that the God of the universe has chosen--WILLINGLY--to live in my soul, in the very depths of my heart. 

Do I always remember this?
No. 
Do I always live in a manner worthy of this reality?
I wish I could say that I did. 
But have I been rejected or abandoned by this Lover of souls?
I have not. 
And it is this mystery of divine grace that transfixes me, that fills me with awe, that feeds the music and stories that come forth from my heart.
